FROGS! February 15, 2008
photo

Yeah, I love 'em. I don't know why, but the little green guys really get me, and the blue, pink and metalic colored ones are just out of this world! I was completely smitten when I met up with Wood Frog, Rana Sylvatica in my own backyard. Someday, we will have a blog just for the wood frog, but today is a good time to Leap Ahead - towards Feb 29 and the AZA's (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) YEAR of the FROG.

And well deserving of a year, they are! These little guys are in big trouble according to the YOTF website: nearly 1/3 of their species are on the way to extinction. That should get our attention.

And why should we care? Well if you don't know, I would be glad to tell you. Stop by to see me at the Master Gardener Rain Garden programs at Kingwood Center on March 8th or at Delaware Green Thumbs on March 29th. I will be happy to talk a little about these important bioindicators. Photo is courtsey of the YOTF website: check it out!
