Attention all Flora-philes! It is time to get out your calendar and mark some pretty exciting upcoming events.
The 2009 Flora-Quest cards (with John Howard's fantastic photo) are now available, and May 1-3, '09 will be bigger than ever. Back by popular demand, Jaret Daniels, the keynote speaker at Appalachian Butterfly Conference, will be on hand to do a butterfly workshop and field time. Ian Adams, one of Ohio's best known photographer, will offer a workshop on flora photography. Ian has many books available and was instrumental in producing the Our First Family's Home for the Ohio Governor's Residence. Field trips, speakers, all the same good stuff from previous years, and even more. Registrations will be on line in January.
November 22 INPAWS Indiana's native plant organization will be having an annual conference, with an array of great speakers. Dr Douglas Tallamy will be the keynote, and Bringing Nature Home is the title of his inspiring book. Our very own Jim McCormac will also be speaking at the INPAWS event. Jim's knowledge is vast and amazing, not only an accomplished botanist, but also one of Ohio best birders and a crack dragonfly/butterfly guy as well. Be watching for his upcoming book on Wild Ohio, a collaboration with Gary Meszaros, another incredible photographer.
A couple other dates you will want to copy down now:
The Ohio Division Of Wildlife's Diversity Conference will be March 4, 2009, and for the botany inclined, Ohio Botanical Symposium is April 3rd this year. All new this year: Midwest Native Plant Conference July 24-26, 2009, I'll be keeping you posted on all these events and more.
Be sure to look for the Flora-Quest display at these events and come over to say, "Hi!"
