What is a trip to the back waters of Florida without seeing Roseate Spoonbills? These hot-pink stunners look like they should have been named Platypus-billed Flamingos. Now you know why I am not on the board of the AOU :)
Their feeding habits are as interesting as their looks. They seem to feed by systematically bill-sweeping from side to side like a synchronized water ballet. If the opportunity every presents itself, take the time to really watch these birds work the water in search of mollusks, fish and amphibians.
