Spring  flooding certainly got our attention; and if you were cleaning your
basement flooding or dealing with standing water in your lawn or gardens, no
doubt, it got your attention too!

What is causing some of these significant changes for the worse, in our
watersheds? “Rain Gardens and Watershedsâ€ workshop  will address
this important topic, and give you some alternatives for your home and
garden.   Mark your calendar for this exciting November 1th seminar, held at
Kingwood Center;  registration is now open.

Richland County Master Gardeners,  Richland Soil and Water Conservation
Districtand Kingwood Center are offering this event,   making this timely
information affordable and available to people struggling with watershed
issues.  Learn from experts about rain gardens, an exciting new concept
used in the landscape, and plant selections that can help dissipate your
water problems.

John Hildreth from Richland Soil and Water Conservation District will talk
about "
Watersheds".  Cheryl Harner, Master Gardener Volunteer and Greater
Mohican Audubon Society President will present "
Rain Gardens: Where does
your Rain Drain?"

the public drainage system by employing techniques such as increasing areas
of planting, managing hard surface run-off, and redirecting water flow into
control areas.  Chuck Gleaves, Director of Kingwood Center will present,
"
Plant Selection and Gardening Techniques".  These programs are designed
to help you understand your watershed, and protect the health and quality
of the water downstream as well.

At $12.00, this extremely affordable program provides 3 knowledgeable
speakers, a delicious soup and sandwich of your choice, and an additional
Kingwood House and Garden or Kingwood Watershed tours, PLUS  a valuable
publication of useful rain garden information.
